How it was calculated
- Rate per period i = 0.5%
- Payment = P × i / (1 - (1 + i)^-n) = $100,000.00 × 0.005 / (1 - (1 + 0.005)^-120) = $1,110.21

How the loan calculator works
An amortized loan is repaid in equal payments that cover interest first and then principal: payment = P × i / (1 - (1 + i)^-n), with i the rate per payment period and n the number of payments. Car loans, mortgages and personal loans work this way.
A deferred payment loan is repaid all at once at the end, so interest compounds on the full balance: amount due = P × (1 + rate)^years. A bond or zero-coupon loan is the reverse: you know what's due at maturity and the calculator finds what it's worth today.
When the compounding and payment frequencies differ (say, interest compounded daily but paid monthly), the rate is converted to the effective rate per payment period first.
