How the macro calculator works
First the calculator estimates your daily calories: BMR × activity level, adjusted for your goal (500 Calories a day per pound a week). Then it splits those calories between protein, carbohydrates and fat and converts them to grams: 4 Calories per gram of protein or carbs and 9 per gram of fat.
Balanced diets sit inside or close to the US Dietary Guidelines ranges (10 to 35% protein, 45 to 65% carbs, 20 to 35% fat). Low-carb and high-protein splits are popular for fat loss and muscle gain. Any split works if total calories and protein are right for you.
