BMR is what you'd burn lying still all day. Your real daily need is higher; see the table or the TDEE Calculator. Estimates are within about 10% for most adults.
How it was calculated
- Mifflin-St Jeor: 10 × kg + 6.25 × cm - 5 × age + 5 (men) or - 161 (women)
- = 1,692 Calories a day
| Activity | Calories / day |

How the bmr calculator works
Basal metabolic rate is the energy your body uses to breathe, circulate blood and keep warm at complete rest. It's usually 60 to 70% of the calories you burn in a day.
Mifflin-St Jeor (1990): 10 × weight (kg) + 6.25 × height (cm) - 5 × age + 5 for men, or - 161 for women. The revised Harris-Benedict equation (Roza and Shizgal, 1984) is an older alternative. Katch-McArdle, 370 + 21.6 × lean body mass (kg), ignores sex and age and works best if you know your body fat.
