How the personal loan calculator works
The monthly payment is the standard installment formula, P × r / (1 - (1 + r)^-n), with r the monthly rate.
Many lenders charge an origination fee of 1% to 10%. Usually it's taken from the money you receive; some lenders add it to the balance instead. Either way you pay more than the stated rate, and the real APR shows by how much.
