How the credit card calculator works
Card interest is charged monthly at APR / 12 on the balance. Each payment first covers that interest; the rest lowers the balance. If the payment is less than the interest, the balance never shrinks.
To find the payment for a target date the calculator uses the loan payment formula: balance × r / (1 - (1 + r)^-months).
