How the lease calculator works
A lease payment repays the drop in value (asset value minus residual) plus interest on the money tied up. In present-value terms: value = payment × annuity factor + residual / (1 + i)^n, where i is the monthly rate. Lease payments are usually due at the start of each month.
The rate tab solves the same equation for i, which shows the true interest rate of a lease quote that only tells you the payment.
