How the volume calculator works
Volume is the amount of space a solid takes up, in cubic units. Prisms and cylinders are base area × height (box: l × w × h, cylinder: πr²h). Pointed shapes are one third of that (cone: πr²h / 3, pyramid: a²h / 3).
A sphere is 4/3 πr³ and an ellipsoid 4/3 πabc. A capsule is a cylinder plus one whole sphere. A spherical cap is πh²(3R - h) / 3, a frustum (a cone with its top cut off) is πh(r² + rR + R²) / 3, and a tube is the outer cylinder minus the inner one.
Pick meters, centimeters, inches or feet to also see the volume in liters, US gallons and cubic feet. Results with π are also shown exactly, like 500/3 π.
