How the present value calculator works
Present value answers how much money today is equal to money received later, given a rate you could earn in the meantime. For a single future amount, PV = FV / (1 + r)^t.
For a series of equal payments (an annuity), PV = PMT × (1 - (1 + i)^-n) / i, where i is the rate per period and n the number of payments. Payments at the start of each period (an annuity due) are worth one period more, so multiply by (1 + i).
