How the password generator calculator works

Passwords are built with your browser's cryptographic random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues), the same source used for encryption keys. Nothing is sent to a server or stored.

Strength is estimated as entropy: length × log2(size of the character pool). Each extra bit doubles the guesses an attacker needs. 16 characters from letters, numbers and symbols gives about 105 bits, far beyond brute force.

At least one character from every set you tick is included, and characters are drawn without bias (random values that would favor some characters are thrown away and redrawn).

Using and checking your result
