How the molarity calculator works

Molarity (M) is moles of solute per liter of solution. Moles = mass ÷ molecular weight, so mass = molarity × volume × molecular weight.

For a dilution, the moles of solute stay the same: C1 × V1 = C2 × V2. Take V1 of the stock and add solvent up to the final volume V2.

Volume here is the final volume of the solution, not the volume of solvent added. Dissolve the solute, then top up to the mark in a volumetric flask.
