How the exponent calculator works

An exponent says how many times to multiply the base by itself: 2^5 = 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 = 32. A negative exponent means one over the power (2^-3 = 1/8), and a fractional exponent means a root (8^(1/3) = ∛8 = 2).

To solve for a missing exponent, take logarithms: if b^x = y then x = ln(y) / ln(b). To solve for a missing base, take the root: b = y^(1/x).

Whole-number powers are also computed exactly, digit by digit, so you can see all the digits of large results like 2^100.
