How the square footage calculator works
Area of a rectangle = length × width. Split an L-shaped room into two rectangles and add them. A circle is π × radius², a triangle from its three sides uses Heron's formula, and a border is the outer rectangle minus the inner one.
Measure in any unit: results are shown in square feet, square meters, square yards and acres. Add a price per square foot, yard or meter to cost out flooring, carpet, paint coverage or sod.
For flooring, buy 5 to 10% more than the area to allow for cuts and waste, more for diagonal layouts.
