How the mortgage payoff calculator works
The calculator first works out where your loan stands today: the remaining balance after the payments you've made, from the original amount, term and rate. Or you can enter the balance and payment from your statement.
It then runs two schedules from today: your normal payments, and your payments plus the extras you choose. The difference in months and in total interest is what paying early saves you.
Biweekly means half the monthly payment every two weeks, which adds up to one extra monthly payment each year.
