178 cm
- Likely range (about 95%)
- 5 ft 7 in to 6 ft 1 in
- Father
- 5 ft 10 in (177.8 cm)
- Mother
- 5 ft 5 in (165.1 cm)
Mid-parental (Tanner) target height. About 95% of children end up within 8.5 cm (3.3 in) of it. Nutrition, health and puberty timing also matter; it's an estimate, not a medical assessment.
How it was calculated
- Boy: (father + mother + 13 cm) / 2
- = (177.8 + 165.1 + 13) / 2 = 178 cm

How the height calculator works
This calculator uses the mid-parental height method (Tanner): average the parents' heights, then add 6.5 cm (2.5 in) for a boy or subtract 6.5 cm for a girl. That's the same as (father + mother ± 13 cm) / 2.
Most children land within about 8.5 cm (3.3 in) of that target. Pediatricians also track growth on percentile charts and may use bone age for a closer estimate.
The doubling rule is a quick check: double a boy's height at 2 years, or a girl's at 18 months.
