Not medical advice. eGFR is an estimate; kidney disease is diagnosed by a doctor from repeated tests (including urine albumin) over at least 3 months. It's less reliable with very high or low muscle mass, in pregnancy, or with acute illness. Uses the 2021 CKD-EPI creatinine equation, which has no race term.

How it was calculated

  1. eGFR = 142 × min(Scr/κ, 1)^α × max(Scr/κ, 1)^-1.200 × 0.9938^age
  2. κ = 0.9, α = -0.302; Scr/κ = 1
  3. = 104 mL/min/1.73 m²

How the gfr calculator works

GFR (glomerular filtration rate) measures how much blood your kidneys filter each minute. It's estimated from a creatinine blood test. For adults this calculator uses the CKD-EPI 2021 equation, recommended by the National Kidney Foundation and the American Society of Nephrology, which dropped the old race coefficient.

eGFR = 142 × min(Scr/κ, 1)^α × max(Scr/κ, 1)^-1.200 × 0.9938^age × 1.012 (if female), where κ is 0.7 for women and 0.9 for men and α is -0.241 for women and -0.302 for men. For children, the Bedside Schwartz formula uses height and creatinine.

Kidney disease stages G1 to G5 follow KDIGO. A single low value isn't a diagnosis; it has to persist for 3 months or come with other signs of kidney damage.
