How the wind chill calculator works

Wind carries heat away from skin faster than still air, so it feels colder than the thermometer says. The NWS formula is WC = 35.74 + 0.6215T - 35.75V^0.16 + 0.4275TV^0.16, with T in °F and V the wind speed in mph.

It is defined for temperatures at or below 50 °F (10 °C) and wind speeds of at least 3 mph. Wind chill affects people and animals, not objects: water won't freeze above 32 °F no matter the wind.
