How the annuity calculator works

During the accumulation phase an annuity works like a tax-deferred savings account: the principal and every addition grow at the annuity's rate. This calculator adds your yearly and monthly contributions and compounds the balance monthly at the rate equivalent to your annual growth rate.

Additions at the beginning of each period (an annuity due) earn one extra period of growth compared with additions at the end (an ordinary annuity).
